Welcome to Earth Day 2007!
The the first time that the Community Gardens
Greenhouse planned and hosted the event.
Janice Pokorski, founder of the Community Gardens
Greenhouse, kicked off the event welcoming community
leaders.
Janice introduces, Lowell City Manager,
Bernie Lynch, who greeted citizens and
talked about the importance of
environmental awareness and each
citizen's responsibility to learn and
contribute when they can.
He thanked all the volunteers and
praised the beautification efforts of the
Community Gardens Greenhouse
supporting its growing future.
Eileen Donoghue, Lowell City Councilwoman and
candidate for the 5th Congressional District,
presented the proclamation on behalf of the
Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.
Lowell City Councilwoman, Rita Mercier, a long time
supporter of beautification projects, had a powerful
voice on the green space stewardship responsibilities
of our citizens. She was amazed at the work being
done in the Acre neighborhoods and supports the
ongoing developments.
The Councilwoman is a gardener and loves petunias.

Lowell City Councilman, Bud
Caulfield, is a longtime supporter
and environmental advocate.
He praised the grassroots
development of the Community
Gardens Greenhouse project and
its impact in the neighborhoods.

Jon Geer, Keep Lowell Beautiful president, talked about the
creation of the Community Gardens Greenhouse and the
partnership that has developed between the greenhouse and
Keep Lowell Beautiful. He briefly mentioned the Flowering City
vision and the impact on Lowell concerning residence awareness.

Mehmed Ali, president of The Friends
of the Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsborough
State Forest, long time friend, and
supporter of many cultural projects
throughout the years, spoke about
preservation and Lowell's city history
and praised the efforts and
achievements of the Community
Gardens Greenhouse.

Jerry Beck, Founder and Artistic Director of The Revolving
Museum, provided a few laughs as he reminisced of working
together and learning about gardening by watching his own
garden develop. He stressed the importance of the
environmental movement and each citizen's educational
opportunities, urging folks to get involved. He personally
thanked Deb Harding and Janice Pokorski for moving this
project forward.
