The Earth Day Festival is held the same weekend each year on the Sunday preceding
Earth Day. It is held rain or shine from 12 PM - 4 PM at the Lowell National Park
Maintenance Facility, 220 Aiken Street and the home to the Community Gardens
Greenhouse.

This is a free event. There is no admission charge to visitors. Exhibitors do not have to
pay a fee for a table or kiosk. Exhibitors can promote their business or organization,
however, they cannot sell goods. Exhibitors must provide their own table, chairs, tent, or
kiosk. The greenhouse does not have the required resources to provide these
materials.  We do provide an orientation kit to exhibitors on the day of the event.

Earth Day participants (exhibitors, volunteers, entertainers, artists, etc.) are unpaid. The
primary purpose is to provide a free, educational, fun family event.

We provide a variety of musical entertainment acts, activities for children, workshops
and demonstrations, food and drink. We try to provide free, non-alcoholic beverages to
everyone attending the event due to the weather. There is a nominal fee for food to cover
expenses.

Earth Day is not a fund raising event for the Community Gardens Greenhouse. It is an
opportunity to celebrate our natural resources and learn how to take care of them. The
event is also used to kick-off the volunteer season for  the Lowell National Park and the
Community Gardens Greenhouse. Both organizations showcase projects for the
upcoming year.

Each year we try to grow the festival. In 2009, approximately 250 visitors attended the
festival. We asked visitors to fill out a survey to determine if we should hold the festival
on a Saturday or Sunday. We received an overwhelming response of Sunday.

We also used a variety of media to advertise the event: printed weekly & daily
newspapers, on-line newspapers, magazines, bulletin boards, etc.,  local CATV
stations, radio, twitter, e-marketing to mail lists, radio promotion, a flier campaign, and
collaborations with various cultural organizations in Lowell. At the Earth Day Festival, we
polled visitors to find out how they heard about the festival. We will use this input
moving forward.
