| Boston hosted the annual ACGA conference, Beantown Digs Community Gardens, August 9 - 12. On August 9, members toured Merrimack Valley's agriculture programs which showcase the innovative and community-based programs in Lowell, Dracut, and Lawrence that assist individuals to become independent food producers. Tour participants viewed dynamic programs that foster community and promote beauty in downtown Lowell, inspire youth to grow food, assist immigrants and refugees to become agricultural entrepreneurs, and redevelop thriving urban gardens and local markets. ACGA participants walked away inspired, learned new community organizing skills, and learned about the strategies and resources to begin similar programs in their own communities across the nation. |
